Uncovering the secrets to optimal performance: behind the scene of elite powerlifting

Elite performance: coach-led, data-driven

In this report, we are talking about senior powerlifter Linda, and her coach Kyle Young (head coach at Kabuki Strength). Kabuki Strength is a foremost leader in advancing proficiency in strength and movement.

Athlete profile:

  • Competition cycle: Peaking

  • Athlete goal: Maximal strength training for competition

  • Movements measured: Back squats + auxillary movements

  • Muscle group: Vastus lateralis

  • Age group: 65+

Behind the training: Listening to the Vastus Lateralis

What did we learn through the unique Oro Muscles data insights and analytics?

Getting the most out of your training schedule!

With Linda's training stimulus optimized, her training led her to set a US National Record.

What Muscle Guided Training (MGT) provides:

Quantification and visualization of training stimulus for each set of a movement within a workout

  1. Quantification and illustration of compensation mechanisms

  2. Rep-by-rep and set-by set insights into intensity and work duration

  3. A tool to monitor the effect of training interventions on your athlete’s muscles

  4. A tool to identify the ideal auxiliary movements for your athlete

MGT in practice...

There is a lack of information during training- muscles are the source of performance and the body’s first line of defense against physical injury, but no other tool allows coaches to see inside the movements and understand inefficiencies from the muscle’s perspective.

The information from the Oro System provides a feedback loop between you and your athletes' muscles to quantitatively and visually allow you to verify if your athletes are executing their working sets with the intended training stimulus.

For the first time, there is data to show you how hard your athlete is working and if that work is efficiently targeting their goals.

Muscle Guided Training not only allows you to understand if the training stimulus is correct, but also provides you with a direction to intervene and monitor those course corrections when implemented.

By providing a direction to adjust which movements are performed or how a movement is performed, this allows for a more targeted training stimulus, often times with less weight. This inherently means less risk of injury and more focused training.

Athletes are already strong and put in the work. Coaches put in the work to guide their athletes well.

This tool enables more efficient practice of this workflow by providing more in depth feedback as the coach is trying to guess the correct training plan to achieve the maximum training stimulus the athlete can endure. This is a moving target the coach is trying to hit blind - anything that adds resolution and sheds light on this target is valuable. It's no longer a game of guess and check.

Muscle Guided Training facilitated the pathway to this particular athlete setting a new US national record.

The science behind this data:

Normal, functional loads were used during measurement and the repetitions and sets were controlled to the same RPE in the prescribed training regimen.

EMG data was gathered according to SENIAM guidelines using an Oro Muscles clinical-grade EMG sensor.

Analysis of the work duration/ capacity of the vastus lateralis was provided through Oro Muscles' clinically validated AI technology.

Oro Muscles has been developing ground-breaking innovative technology based on over 5 years of novel internal research and decades of classic EMG feature-extraction methods. Clinical validation of our AI has been published in peer reviewed journals with the UMCG, the #2 rehabilitation hospital, globally.

The first step to winning is setting your ambition. With the Oro Muscles wearable, we facilitate the best interaction between athlete and coach, help you understand deep muscle insights, and use this information to maximize performance, quickly, with less risks of injury.
